Israel had withdrawn its troops and settlers from the coastal strip in 2005, only to see its border communities come under frequent attacks with CRUDE (caps mine) rockets fired by Hamas and smaller Palestinian groups.

(Another suggestion that the arsenal being "lobbed" at Israeli settlers is essentially useless and collateral damage minimal, as well as being waged by teeny tiny Hamas wimps and old men. The basic assertion is that Jewish life is essentially being interrupted and not threatened. This position is anti-Semitic. It paints Israel as a "bully" and ignores the cynical use of civilians by Hamas as human shields.)
